Deus X Human Evolution Preview

E3 is not far away now so an influx of great new promo materials for upcoming releases is to be expected. One of the first to kick the promo madness into gear is the fantastic new trailer for Deus X Human Evolution. Deus X remains one of my favourite video games of all time - it's successor while still a decent experience failed to impress, but I am very hopeful that the third release in the franchise will be a return to top form. Decide for yourself by watching the trailer below. [flashvideo ...

Splinter Cell Conviction Competition!

Splinter Cell Conviction is the latest release in the Splinter Cell series and is available on Xbox360. You play the role of Sam Fisher a spy and weapons & special tactics master out for revenge for those that may have been involved in the death of his daughter. The game mechanics rely heavily on the stealth approach of the series but some nice new additions have been added such as new take down moves, execution mode and a tracer to show Sam's last known position if he gets spotted. In a...

Review: Final Fantasy XIII

One of the stand out quotes of Jedi Master Yoda was "fear leads to the dark side". He knew what he was talking about, fear has the power to corrupt and manipulate our thoughts and actions in many subtle and not so subtle ways, often in a highly negative way. My mate Pete also has some great quotes of wisdom, although not a Jedi Master; at least to my knowledge; he does tend to have an element of Haiku to his thought process. Take the following "expectation is the mother of all f%&k ups" - Pe...

Review: Eye Of Judgment Legends

Eye of Judgment was released on the PS3 back in 2007, I caught an advert for the game on TV and was immediately swept in. Being something of a self confessed geek the premise of an interactive card video game was simply something I could not curtail myself from investigating further. I picked the game up the next day and well the rest is history. From the moment of purchase I have loved Eye of Judgment, the card reading mechanic utilising the Playstation Eye, while interesting,  served only as a...

Heavy Week

Student exams have provided me with a brief opportunity to update the blog while I normally would have to wait until much later this evening. I just wanted to announce to the world in a statement of utter joy that my copy of Heavy Rain was dispatched this morning, with any luck it shall be residing in my PS3 tomorrow evening!! To say that I am excited would be something of an understatement, I honestly consider Heavy Rain to be the most significant game released in my life time. I'm not alone...

Heavy Rain Launch Week

Heavy Rain is a game I have been looking forward to for over five years now. It's one of the main reasons I invested in a PS3 and will be in my opinion a game that changes the video game landscape forever. That's quite a bold statement and it's not one I make likely out of fanboy admiration. I have enjoyed playing video games for over twenty years, have been formally educated in their creation and have taught subject matter relevant to their design - I consider myself well informed. Although I h...

Unboxing Mass Effect 2 & Dante’s Inferno Collectors Editions

Equipped with my shiny new Kodak Zi8 I thought a good way to start would be with some unboxing videos - YouTube compression has been applied but the videos should be available in 720p when YouTube is finished processing them... Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntBiLrzqOpU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5b6Hz1qXuA

Review: Bayonetta Xbox 360

Bayonetta runs the risk of falling into just about every cliché in the book. On the surface it could be considered a style over substance button masher; targeted at sex starved teenagers with players taking control of a busty femme fatale who dispatches her enemies with an almost unequaled panache. However for anyone who actually takes the time to play the game they will discover that not only is it fantastic but that it manages to avoid the trappings of cliché and actually sets the standard by ...

Bayonetta

Been feeling absolutely terrible this past few days - I did foolishly try to return to work this morning, but that didn't go at all well. To make matters worse it's bloody impossible to get a doctors appointment; I've been trying to do that unsuccessfully for the past 48hrs. It really makes me mad that I pay hundreds of pounds each month for a health service that doesn't provide for me in my time of need, it's a downright disgrace. Anyway my temperature is not quite as bad as it has been for ...

Review: Dragon Age Origins Mac

It's seldom that I have the pleasure of reviewing a game of any significance on the Mac platform. Let's face it, games on the Mac are still playing catch up with just about every other platform. It's not that they can't run them, more a case of the platform requiring slightly more effort to develop for and perhaps not having the same mass market audience to sell to as with more established gaming platforms such as the PC or consoles. Thankfully in recent months gaming on the Mac has started to r...
